First meeting we make a square mat consisting of 7 ropes, it makes it easier to have shorter ropes to work with (not as much rope to pull through) and when you make a mistake there is not as much to undo. The mat also grows outwards all the time, meaning you can lay the innermost row first and then the outer ones outside the inner ones. With its square repeating pattern and relatively short ropes (approx. 1.8m/piece) it is quite easy to lay, everyone usually manages to finish their mat during the meeting. This is where we learn the basics of how to use the pattern plate, suitable methods for pulling through the ropes and examples of how to attach the ropes when you are finished.

The Second meeting we make a round rug that only has one rope, 11.5m long so it will be a little more challenging. This rug also alternates, i.e. you can't lay the innermost row first because the rope alternates between inner and outer rows during a round, which requires several auxiliary needles. A little more difficult but everyone usually manages to do it even if you sometimes have to undo the rope.

After this time, you have learned "everything" about making small rugs, i.e. you have come across different laying techniques and some ways to start and finish.

The third and fourth meetings are quite independent of each other, so you can do them in any order or just do one of them.

The third meeting we usually make a "rose carpet" with 8 circles in the outer ring. The picture shows a 12 rose carpet that is a little larger. It is one of the most beautiful carpets dating back to the Viking era. Here you can also try using both untarred and tarred rope as in the picture.

Fjärde träffen Här kan man tex jobba med grövre rep tex 6-8mm och göra mattor som kan användas som tex entrematta. Det krävs lite speciella hjälpmedel och tekniker när grovleken på repen ökar som inte behövs när man jobbar i 4mm rep. Vill man ha mattan utomhus så använder vi rep av plastfiber som nästan inte går att skilja från hampa. Man kan också testa nya material som tex rep i Sisal.
