About me and my craft

I have been carving since the age of 12 or so. In the beginning I had a Swiss Army knife that I resharpened so it worked better for carving. I carved many different things, including a couple of cutting boards a year. When I filled 2 shelf meters in the kitchen with cutting boards, my dear wife thought that was enough. Then I started giving them away. When the family was also "saturated", I started selling them. Nowadays I have a small carpentry shop in the basement and also make benches, shelves, signs etc.

I did military service in the navy and it was natural to become interested in seaman's work of various kinds. At that time, there was also much of the "old" defense left, for example the old workshops in Karlskrona, and it was an experience to browse around among all the old stuff there. I then did quite a lot of rope and seaman work in the 70s, then long breaks. When we started to stand on the market in Visby, I realized that there was an interest among the visitors in learning how to wrap bottles with rope, so I started giving courses on how to do it. I also started wrapping bottles in rope (and leather) and making small mats (pads) myself to have for sale and to advertise the courses.

I also started sewing in early years. I sewed my first trousers at the age of 16. I wanted an extremely low waist, tight down to the knees and then flared from the knees down. There was nothing to buy, so the only solution was to sew yourself. Nowadays I make tool bags and small bags in coarse cotton canvas.
And that I teach what I do is quite natural because I spent my professional life as a computer science teacher at Chalmers Technical University in Gothenburg.
